Bicycles – come, try, & DIY

7.30pm, Thursday 13 May, at Nash Mills Primary School.

Bring your bicycle along for practical advice on making it safer and more enjoyable to use through hands-on basic maintenance tips: punctures, chains, helmets, brakes.  Find out more about Dacorum’s Cycling Strategy.   And take the chance to try out a range of slightly curious bikes.  Lots of (green) tea and cake too, of course!

DO YOU HAVE A CURIOUS BICYCLE TO BRING ALONG? Please contact  to discuss demonstrating it at the Green Tea.

GETTING TO THE CYCLING GREEN TEA:

By bike: Take the canal towpath from Hemel town centre (access onto towpath is ramped opp. B&Q – caution: very steep!! – , at Durrants Hill Road and at Sainsbury’s but not at Station Road or Fishery Inn, Boxmoor). Come off at Dickinson Quay (Apsley Marina and Woody’s restaurant) and turn right onto Belswains Lane, Nash Mills Primary School is on your left just past turning to Barnacres Road.

By train:

The nearest train station is Apsley, only a 10 minute walk away. Cross the road and head over the canal using the footbridge by the Papermill pub then follow directions from the canal as above. Bikes are allowed anywhere along the trains although there is often more room in the carriage marked with a disabled sign.

Trains depart at the following times, heading to Apsley:

Berkhamsted 19.04

Hemel Hempstead 19.09

Watford Junction 18.59

Kings Langley 19.03

By bus:

The 4, 5, and 550 buses all run along Belwains Lane. The 500 will get you to the Paper Mill pub, from where you can follow the walking directions above.

Timetable can be found here: 4 and 5 ; 500  ; 550

REFRESHMENTS AND DISCUSSIONS AFTERWARDS

When filmmaker Josh Fox is asked to lease his land for drilling, he embarks on a cross-country odyssey uncovering a trail of secrets, lies and contamination. A recently drilled nearby Pennsylvania town reports that residents are able to light their drinking water on fire. This is just one of the many absurd and astonishing revelations of a new country called GASLAND. Part vérité travelogue, part expose, part mystery, part bluegrass banjo meltdown, part showdown.
